Technical Chief of Staff – Product & Data (m/f/d)

Permanent employee, Full-time · Berlin HQ

YOUR ROLE

We are looking for a Technical Chief of Staff – Product & Data to support product execution, data sourcing, and operational alignment across BIT Capital’s research and investment technology stack.

In this role, you will be Chief of Staff to the Chief AI Officer and act as a connector between investment analysts, quantitative researchers and engineering teams. The focus is strongly operational and execution-oriented: ensuring that the right data is sourced, the right problems are clearly specified, and complex cross-team work is executed reliably and with clarity.

This role is focused on execution, clarity, and operational leverage rather than owning a traditional product roadmap. You will operate at the functional level — translating investment and research needs into clear requirements, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring follow-through in a highly data-driven environment, as well as supporting selected strategic initiatives.

Location: Berlin HQ (hybrid)

Relocation: Berlin relocation required (visa/relocation support available)

What you will do:

Data: sourcing & partnerships

  • Discover and evaluate fundamental and alternative datasets together with investment analysts and portfolio managers

  • Own relationships with data vendors: onboarding, regular check-ins, awareness of schema changes, and renewals (in coordination with legal/compliance)

  • Maintain a structured overview of datasets, vendors, refresh frequencies, and dependencies

  • Coordinate dataset evaluations with research and engineering teams, covering data quality, feasibility, and operational complexity

  • Identify and scope self-harvested data opportunities, including web scraping, together with investment analysts and engineers

Product: execution, alignment & impact

  • Translate investment and product intent into clear functional requirements and acceptance criteria for Engineering, including expectations around data freshness, reliability, and failure handling

  • Act as a structured interface between investment analysts and technology teams, gathering feedback on workflows, usability, and data trust, and reducing ambiguity across stakeholders

  • Measure and track the impact and adoption of new products and features using analyst feedback and usage signals, helping Engineering focus on the highest-impact problems

  • Support documentation, auditability, and governance requirements in collaboration with Engineering and Compliance

YOUR PROFILE

Core requirements

  • Strong quantitative & analytical foundation

Solid grounding in statistics and data analysis, including hands-on exploration and validation of data using tools such as SQL or Python; comfortable reasoning about data quality, signal vs. noise, and empirical validation.

  • Relevant experience in data-, product-, or research-driven environments (3–6 years)

Background in quantitative finance, data analytics, technical product management, technical consulting, or adjacent roles close to analytical or research workflows.

  • Financial, market & business literacy

Familiarity with equity markets, accounting fundamentals, key financial metrics, and business strategy; able to speak the language of investors and investment teams.

Nice to have

  • Quantitative finance background

Education or experience in quantitative finance, financial engineering, economics, mathematics, physics, or related fields.

  • Buy-side, data industry & alternative data exposure

Experience at an investment manager, quantitative research group, or financial / alternative data provider, with familiarity with the alternative data ecosystem.

  • Hands-on product management experience

Direct ownership of product execution, including requirements definition, prioritization, and delivery in data-heavy or technical environments.

  • Modern data stack & data acquisition familiarity

Experience with platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, public cloud environments, and data acquisition techniques including web scraping.

  • Applied research & AI tooling

Familiarity with backtesting, data modeling, and LLM-based or agentic workflows.

Markers of excellence

Strong candidates typically demonstrate:

  • Quantitative rigor and intellectual honesty

A background reflecting strong analytical standards, with the ability to reason clearly about data quality, uncertainty, and empirical results rather than relying on intuition alone.

  • Proven effectiveness in data-heavy, high-stakes environments

Experience operating in complex, data-driven settings (e.g. research, investing, or technical product environments) where correctness, robustness, and operational reliability mattered.

  • Ownership of ambiguous, cross-functional problems

A track record of structuring ill-defined problems, aligning investment, research, and engineering stakeholders, and driving execution to completion without formal authority.

YOUR MINDSET
You are passionate about AI, emerging technologies, and investing — and about building products that drive very high business impact. You are proactive, entrepreneurial, and thrive in a transparent environment.
OUR BENEFITS
  • Direct exposure to investment decision-making and measurable business impact
  • Work with large-scale data and modern AI-driven research workflows

  • Close collaboration with senior leadership and experienced engineers

  • Flat hierarchy, high responsibility, and a steep learning curve

  • Competitive compensation, relocation, and visa support
